JOB PURPOSE
Perform inspection, maintenance, and repair activities across all GBIA airfield pavements and civil infrastructure to guarantee operational availability, absolute aircraft safety, and total compliance with aviation standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Airfield Pavement Inspection & Maintenance
- Conduct routine, scheduled, and reactive inspections across runways, taxiways, aprons, aircraft stands, shoulders, runway strips, drainage, and markings to detect defects early.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance, including pavement patching, crack sealing, joint repairs, localized rehabilitation, and civil drainage servicing.
- Perform airfield marking maintenance, removing obsolete markings and applying new paint lines per approved engineering standards.
- Support runway rubber removal, friction testing, surface preservation, and pavement condition surveys to collect accurate performance data.
- Maintain complete and accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work completion records within approved management systems.
- Operational Support & Infrastructure Restoration
- Respond promptly to pavement defects, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) findings, and infrastructure failures in movement areas to support the Airport FOD Management Program.
- Execute emergency repairs and infrastructure restoration under the functional authority of the Airport Duty Manager (ADM) to minimize flight disruptions.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with AOCC and Airfield Operations, providing timely technical updates for NOTAM issuances, Low Visibility Procedures (LVP), and the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP).
- Inspect and perform minor repairs on perimeter fencing and gates, reporting any restricted area security defects immediately to the ADM and Security team.
- Conduct formal shift handovers, accurately documenting outstanding defects, temporary repairs, and operational restrictions in the Airport Operational Log.
- Safety, Compliance & Technical Support
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply strictly with ICAO SARPs (Annex 14), Vietnamese aviation regulations, Airside Works Permits, and Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures.
- Operate and maintain assigned vehicles, plant, tools, and specialist equipment, performing routine pre- and post-use inspections to ensure safe operation.
- Report hazards and operational risks through the Airport Safety Management System (SMS) and participate in safety investigations when required.
- Assist the Pavement Maintenance Expert and contractors with condition assessments, engineering investigations, rehabilitation projects, and acceptance inspections.
- Maintain technical competence through ongoing training while fostering a culture of safety, operational discipline, and teamwork.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Airport Engineering, Highway Engineering, Construction Engineering, Infrastructure Maintenance, or a related technical discipline
- Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in pavement maintenance, civil infrastructure maintenance, transportation infrastructure, or airport maintenance operations.
- Demonstrated experience conducting pavement inspections, civil maintenance works, drainage servicing, and repairing concrete or asphalt pavements.
- Hands-on experience operating pavement maintenance machinery, tools, and specialist equipment within operational environments.
- Working knowledge of ICAO Annex 14, applicable Vietnamese aviation regulations, and airfield pavement maintenance procedures; ability to respond to emergency repairs safely under operational pressure.
- Experience in runway rubber removal, pavement marking application, friction improvement, or pavement rehabilitation is desirable.
- Certifications & Licenses
- Airside Driving Permit (ADP) and Airside Radio Communications certification (or approved Airside Radio Protocols training) are required.
- Completed training in Airside Safety and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Pavement or Civil Infrastructure Maintenance training and relevant Plant & Equipment Operator certifications (where applicable).
- Training in Runway Friction Testing, Surface Condition Assessment, or Airfield Marking Application is desirable.
