JOB PURPOSE
Perform routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and mechanical repairs across all GBIA vehicles and mobile plant to ensure fleet safety, maximum reliability, and continuous operational availability.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. Vehicle Inspection, Preventive Maintenance & Servicing
- Execute routine inspections, scheduled servicing, and preventive maintenance across all airport vehicles and mobile plant in accordance with OEM guidelines and airport procedures.
- Perform first-line mechanical and electrical maintenance, including fluid/filter changes, battery/tyre replacements, belt adjustments, lighting repairs, and basic fault rectification.
- Conduct pre- and post-service inspections with a focus on safety-critical systems (brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, warning devices) to verify operational readiness.
- Log and update all inspection reports, maintenance histories, and asset records in the CMMS to ensure statutory compliance and support fleet lifecycle planning.
B. Fleet Support, Operational Readiness & Contractor Coordination
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns and operational equipment failures, performing first-line fault diagnosis and swift repairs to restore fleet availability.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with operational stakeholders to minimize service disruptions and maintain maximum fleet readiness.
- Prepare and manage vehicles for statutory inspections, warranty works, third-party contractor maintenance, and fleet commissioning activities.
- Assist with emergency vehicle recovery operations and support the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) during vehicle-related operational emergencies.
C. Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Adhere strictly to OHS standards, Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols, and workshop safety practices before returning vehicles to service.
- Maintain and inspect workshop tools, lifting equipment, and service facilities per approved maintenance and safety schedules.
- Report operational hazards, recurring defects, and safety risks through the Airport Safety Management System (SMS), participating in investigations as required.
- Maintain technical competency through ongoing OEM training while fostering a culture of safety, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A. Qualifications
- Certificate, Diploma, or Vocational Qualification in Automotive Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.
- Trade Certificate or recognized vocational qualification in Automotive or Mechanical Maintenance.
B. Work Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in vehicle maintenance, fleet maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, or a comparable mechanical maintenance environment.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience performing routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and basic mechanical repairs on light/heavy vehicles and mobile plant.
- Solid knowledge of workshop safety practices, vehicle maintenance principles, preventive procedures, and maintenance record-keeping.
- Ability to work safely in operational field environments and respond effectively to urgent maintenance requirements.
- Experience using vehicle diagnostic equipment (interpreting fault codes) and maintaining diesel/petrol or airside operational vehicles is desirable.
C. Certifications & Licenses
- Valid driving license (appropriate to vehicle class) and an Airside Driving Permit (ADP) (or ability to obtain).
- Airside Radio Communications certification or approved Airside Radio Protocols training.
- Completed training in Airside Safety, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and Manual Handling.
- Forklift or Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Operator certification is desirable (where required).
- Basic First Aid certification is desirable.
