JOB PURPOSE
Perform routine airfield inspections, FOD management, environmental housekeeping, and basic maintenance across GBIA movement areas to ensure safe, clean, serviceable, and compliant operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. Airfield Inspection, FOD Management & Operational Housekeeping
- Execute routine FOD inspections, sweeping, and removal across aircraft movement areas in support of the Airport FOD Management Program.
- Collect, segregate, and dispose of FOD and hazardous materials, maintaining designated FOD collection bins and disposal points.
- Participate in airport-wide FOD awareness initiatives, cross-functional FOD walks, and continuous housekeeping improvement activities.
- Identify and report pavement defects, damaged signage, drainage blockages, lighting obstructions, contamination, and standing water through approved reporting channels.
- Maintain accurate inspection logs, FOD reports, and operational documentation in compliance with airport procedures.
B. Airfield Environment, Vegetation Management & Low-Level Maintenance
- Conduct routine grass cutting and vegetation control according to the Wildlife Hazard Management Program to minimize wildlife attractants.
- Clear overgrown vegetation around airfield lighting, NAVAIDs, signage, perimeter fencing, and drainage channels to maintain visibility and accessibility.
- Inspect and unblock drainage channels, culverts, and catch pits while responding promptly to fuel/hydraulic spills with initial containment measures.
- Perform low-level non-technical maintenance, such as replacing airfield furniture, cleaning signs, removing loose materials, and assisting with hazardous waste handling under direction.
- Provide general operational support to pavement maintenance, electrical maintenance, and wildlife management teams as required.
C. Operational Support, Safety & Compliance
- Respond to urgent operational requests from AOCC, Airfield Operations, and Airport Duty Managers (ADM), operating under ADM functional authority during shifts.
- Support Airport Operator NOTAM processes, Low Visibility Procedures (LVP), and Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) implementation during emergency responses and incident recovery.
- Operate and inspect assigned machinery (sweepers, mowers, utility vehicles, magnetic sweepers), conducting strict pre- and post-use safety inspections.
- Adhere to Permit-to-Work (PTW) protocols, airside safety rules, and SMS hazard reporting procedures, participating in safety investigations when requested.
- Complete formal shift handovers and update the Airport Operational Log while fostering a culture of operational discipline, environmental stewardship, and teamwork.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A. Qualifications
Certificate, Diploma, or Vocational Qualification in Airport Operations, Infrastructure Maintenance, Environmental Services, Grounds Maintenance, Civil Maintenance, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
B. Work Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in airport operations, airfield maintenance, environmental services, infrastructure/facilities maintenance, or a comparable operational environment.
- Demonstrated experience conducting operational inspections, environmental housekeeping, grounds maintenance, and field-based support activities.
- Hands-on experience operating utility vehicles, grass-cutting machinery, sweepers, or other maintenance plant and equipment.
- Physical capability and resilience to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and operate safely in high-priority, safety-critical environments.
- Experience in waste management, vegetation control, drainage clearance, and basic environmental protection practices is desirable.
C. Certifications & Licenses
- Airside Driving Permit (ADP) and Airside Radio Communications certification (or approved Airside Radio Protocols training).
- Completed training in Airside Safety, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Awareness.
- Spill Response and Pollution Control training.
- Plant & Equipment Operator certification relevant to sweepers, ride-on mowers, utility vehicles, or similar maintenance equipment (where applicable).
